Nvidia Shield Tablet Android 5.0 Issues

Nvidia Shield Tablet LTE is among the first phone/tablet to get Android 5.0 Lollipop update. It’s really great to see OEMs update their Android tablet/phone lineup quickly. Nvidia Shield Tablet 5.0 Lollipop update is great but has issues due to which you may want to wait.Nvidia-Shield-Tablet-Android-5.0-issues

nVidia Shield users are reporting that after upgrading to Android 5.0 a.k.a Android Lollipop, their devices are randomly rebooting. Here are the known issues users are facing after the update. We have included all the Nvidia Shield Tablet Android 5.0 Issues in this post.

#1 Battery Drain Issues

nVidia Shield usually has really good battery life. Being a tablet, it has to. Even a hardcore user can easily get 1 day usage with thid tablet. Not so with the Lollipop update. Users are reporting that the stand-by time of nVidia Shield Tablet has gone down drastically. Some users are losing as much as 3% battery per hour.

Screen-On Time has also gone down after the update. Screen-On time before the update would usually be 5-6 hour. After the update, it is about 4-5 hours. Most of the users are having this issue.

#2 Incompatibility with Apps like Viber and WordPress

This issue has got nothing to do with the Shield Tablet or nVidia. The issues with apps has to do with developers not updating their app. The issues will be gone when developers update their app.

Viber usually works fine but from time to time, it crashes for no reason. Same thing happens with WordPress. I use Nvidia Shield Tablet to write posts (using Anker Bluetooth Keyboard) and the app crashed 3 times before I could finish writing this app.

#3 Random Hiccups and Reboots

There are some quirks you have to be aware of before you start updating. If you are rooted, be sure to un-root your tablet. Users who were rooted and applied OTA update reported that their device got stock in boot loop. So, unroot the device before you start updating.

You may also notice that your Shield Tablet slow down a little after the update but it isn’t as major as what we saw in Nexus 4 Lollipop update. A part of it has to do with the animations. Nothing major.
